Our Philosophy
Little Stork was conceived from the notion that what seems to be missing from most antenatal education classes is honesty, balance and a no holds barred approach to birth, baby as beyond.
We want to give you the honest information that your best friend would share with you over coffee (if she happened to be a Midwife too! We think this give our classes something quite special. Midwife expertise, but with an added bonus of Mummy insight to boot.
After some pretty extensive market research asking real life parents of squishy newborns what it was they were after and wished they’d known, Little Stork was born! Our promise to you, is that we’ll deliver a comprehensive and bespoke service to meet the real needs of you as new parents. Little Stork couples will get Midwife knowledge and expertise, plus a healthy serving of Mummy experience.
We at Little Stork HQ believe that pregnancy and the transition into parenthood should be a magical and joyous experience (despite the poo and sleep deprivation) but what we remain very mindful of, is that one size does not fit all, and every pregnancy, birth and first steps into parenthood will be unique. On completing our Little Stork classes, we hope each couple will have the confidence, support and tools needed to find their own path on their parenting journey.
Our Classes
Before taking on THE most meaningful and exciting physical and emotional challenges of your life, you need to find an antenatal class which suits you. You want a relaxed and open platform to learn, and gain empowerment, while not paying the earth for the privilege. Enter… Little Stork!
Little Stork has identified the real need for women and their partners to feel better prepared to face the challenges of probably the most life changing experience anyone will go through. We want to make things as easy as possible for our couples, so we have chosen a fantastic central location in Little Green Frog café. Free parking is just a couple of minutes walk away from the light and airy quirky café, which we think will become a familiar hang out for our new Mummies and babies as their little ones grow, particularly as a baby friendly setting and coffee and cake become daily essentials when you’ve welcomed your new arrival!
When asked, one of the most valuable commodities for brand new parents wasn’t a £3000 limited edition leather Bugaboo (although they are pretty lush!) but it was the friendship and support of other parents, in the same position, experiencing the same challenges and changes- side by side. A passion of Little Stork is to help to bring like minded people together, to start to form that special relationship with you all.
The aim is simple- approachable, open and inclusive! Simple.
Our Classes Are:
Why Little Stork?
What we think makes our classes stand out is that they are designed and run by qualified Midwives who are also real life Mummies! This means we are very passionate and dedicated to giving our couples what they want and need to know in a balanced, evidence-based, and realistic way.
Did you know you don’t actually have to be either of those things to become an antenatal educator? Crazy huh?! Particularly because we happen to think, that the best way to learn is by hearing examples, and anecdotes.
We thought long and hard about what we’d have wanted to know when we were pregnant, including the all important details and top tips (and not an ounce of preaching in sight!!) ![]()
We aim to deliver the courses in a way that we *hope* will be memorable and fun (without any cringing or awkward role play!) giving you opportunity to feel able to ask questions and get to know other couples who are in the same boat ![]()
FAQ
We recommend starting the classes between 28-34 weeks. Depending upon your due date, you might have the choice of 2 courses. Which one you choose will be entirely up to you. You might find that one course suits you better in terms of work, holidays, travel etc.
All Little Stork courses are led by qualified, experienced, practising Midwives – who also happen to be Mummies themselves. Although NCT instructors have had some training to teach their classes, they are not Midwives. We base our courses on our experiences of different types of birth, from water births through to cesarean section. It’s a very practical, non judgemental approach to antenatal classes. We also cover breast and bottle feeding.
Unfortunately we can’t refund you if you miss or cannot make a session. However we will let you have the handouts that you missed and do our best to answer any questions you have. We often arrange for couples to come to a subsequent session a little early so that they can have some 1:1 time with their midwife/teacher.
We make a MASSIVE effort to make sure expectant fathers are made to feel not only welcome, but important too. The course is tailored to include them, offering top tips on how they can help not just at the birth, but in the early weeks at home.
Nothing! We will provide all written materials, free parking and refreshments. Extra cakes can be purchased if you choose, so bring some cash along!
Typically, we have between 8-10 couples per course though this will vary from course to course.
They are held from 7pm-9pm with time for breaks and chat.
We will certainly try! During the course there will be some groups games and activities to help you to get to know one another. We also encourage a Facebook group, and/or a WhatsApp group for everyone to keep in touch. Historically we have found that this really works.
